THE HOLY TRINITY TRUST, ROTHWELL

The Trustees endeavour to raise money for various projects approved by the Parochial Church Council. At the present time the Trustees wish to support

the PCC in the necessary work of restoring the Church Organ. This will cost somewhere in the region of £90,000 and some £17,000 has been raised to date. The Hon. Treasurer to the Trust is Mr Bill Roberts, 31 Kingsley Road, Rothwell and he will be glad to receive any donations people may care to give to the Trust. As the Trust is a charity in its own right, all donations can be gift aided wherever possible.

CHRISTMAS AND GREETINGS CARDS are now on sale from the Church or by previous arrangement with the Vicar. The Christmas Card depicts the Holy Family model as found in the Lady Chapel. This is A5 size on ivory card. It sells, with envelope, at £1:50 each. There is an A6 card also but without the Christmas greeting and this sells at 75p with envelope. The design is based on a water colour by Helen Cross.

A very colourful greetings card based on a water colour by Muriel Shillito depicts the Glendon Window in the Chancel. This is A6 in size and sells at

75p with envelope. Another A5 size greetings card is based on water colour paintings by Doreen Doughty, Evelyn Jones, Janet Bassett and Heather Cross. This card depicts seven pictures of various parts of our Parish Church. This is a card to treasure as well as to send. With envelope, this card sells at £1:75. There are also bookmarks on sale- two designs, one is the window depicting St Helen and the other is the eagle lectern

We are truly grateful to Mrs Zandra Powell and members of the Thorpe Malsor Water Colour Painting Group for this wonderful contribution to raise funds

for the Holy Trinity Trust. The Trust was founded some years ago to assist the PCC in the repair and maintenance of the Church Fabric and its ornaments. Orders for the greetings cards can be sent to the Vicar, Canon George Burgon and cheques are made payable to Holy Trinity Rothwell Trust.

CHURCHES TOGETHER IN ROTHWELL

NEW STAINED GLASS WINDOW

The THE JESSIE CLEAVER MEMORIAL WINDOW was dedicated by the Archdeacon of Oakham at a short ceremony on Saturday October 27th at 11am in the South Aisle Chapel of Holy Trinity Church, Rothwell. Mrs Cleaver died in 2004 and directed in her will that a stained glass window be installed in our Parish Church. £50,000 was given to the PCC to carry out her wishes. The subject of the window was "Jesus and the children". The PCC appointed Helen Whittaker of Barley Studios in York to be the artist and designer. A very imaginative and colourful design was submitted and approved by the Parochial Church Council and the Diocese with observations from English Heritage. At the dedication we heard from Canon Paul Rose, my immediate predecessor, about Jessie Cleaver and also from the artist Helen Whittaker as to her thoughts which led to the design and execution of this particular work of art for our Parish Church. Audrey Johnson had agreed to do a composite reflection about Jessie as she always maintained that Jessie gave her a love of literature. Sadly, Audrey passed away earlier this year. Jessie was quite a character in her own way but she experienced great sadness in the tragic death of her husband in the last War and life was never quite the same again for her. There is a slate plaque in memory of Jessie carved by a tutor at the Orton Trust and a brass plate recording her gift. ( I should like something in cut glass to recall her accent!) Jessie's gift has also enabled the PCC to continue the restoration work on the masonry pointing of the interior east wall of the South Aisle as well as some necessary improvements to the stone tracery of the windows.

SENIOR YOUTH CLUB

Since the autumn, membership has dwindled until it was no longer practical to have any activities. Our thanks to Mick and Lorraine Watts, Carol Barrett,

Linda Holt and Margaret Burgon for loyal service and support over the last few years. The youth club has excellent equipment and is financially

secure. It could be that if there is sufficient interest, the youth club could be revived in some shape or form in the near future. Those with ideas

are asked to have a chat with the Vicar.

THE FAIR TRADE STALL has a selection of teas, biscuits, cakes and so on from various places- ask Pam Shaw- this is just another way we can help one another.

CHURCH VISITORS

I have gleaned from Margaret, who worked for the Kettering and Corby Circuit of the Methodist Church, the value placed on Church Visitors. This is an avenue to explore in our own Church life. A great deal of visiting goes on in and from the Church at various levels and such an activity is greatly appreciated by visitors and visited alike. Occasionally some people "fall through the net" and it would be good to set up a structure in our Church and Parish whereby we have a group of  visitors, trained in all aspects of visiting, who could improve the pastoral care that every Parish Church should provide. I should be glad to hear from folks interested in being involved in a trained visitors scheme which would be led by officers from the Diocese.

THE ANGELUS BELL is rung automatically 3 times a day from the Tower at Rothwell Church. This ancient and traditional call to prayer at the beginning, the middle and at the end of the day can help us in our spiritual devotions. We don't have to use a set form of words. We can use our own and take time to remember others. Those who want a copy of the traditional Angelus prayers can obtain one from the Church. They are based on the encounter in St Luke's Gospel between the Blessed Virgin and the Angel Gabriel.

CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

Roger Smith , in consultation with the Diocesan Children's Officer, has revised our present policy and it has been adopted by the PCC. Everyone working with children has to be made aware of our policies and be subject to screening by the Criminal Records Bureau. The Diocese handles all the application forms for us. Most people involved are aware of this development in Church life and co-operate happily with these sensible demands. Our Child Protection Officer is Mrs Bronwen Foreman, 1 Clipstone Court, Meeting Lane, Rothwell. T/N 418969

CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

INFANT SUNDAY SCHOOL The Infant Sunday School (age range 4-7yrs) meets on the 2nd Sunday in the month in the Trinity Centre and will co-exist with the main Sunday morning service at 10:30am. Children should be brought to the Church in time for the 10:30am Service and   will then be taken by the leaders to the Trinity Centre. They will re-join their parents during the second part of the service.

The CRÈCHE will remain in the south west corner of the Church and its facilities are going to be upgraded to make it more attractive and secure for the children. Parents need to be with the babies and little ones all through the service and make use of the toys and equipment.

Young people who wish to assist with the Infant Sunday School and/or The Crèche as a community service for others will be warmly welcomed. Please speak with the clergy or the leaders.

Our Tiny Tots Services on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays in the month continue in the Lady Chapel. A letter will be circulated to all families who have children baptised in our Church over the last 5-6 years advertising our work with children and young people.

The pattern of the "Sunday special" services is going to be altered so that there will be slightly more all age worship events in each month. The worship ministry will be bringing forward more ideas.

In these ways we hope that we can encourage families with children to feel at home in our lovely Church .It is the duty of everyone in the congregation to help make our children and their parents feel welcome in God's house.

JUNIOR YOUTH CLUB

The Junior Youth Club meets on Fridays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. in the Trinity Centre. It has members aged 7 to 11 years of age. It aims to provide Christian education and an understanding of the Church in a lively atmosphere using music, games and various programmes of discovery.

All enquiries about these groups should be made to George or Roger. Needless to say we are always on the look out for adults who are interested in working with children and keen to share the Christian faith with them.

SCOUTS, CUBS, BEAVERS

This section is vital to the whole Group for unless we have cub scouts, the beaver scouts will have nowhere to go and the scout section will have no recruits! The cub scouts meet on Wednesday evenings. This allows  our Scout Leaders and 2nd Rothwell cubs to help our cub scout section encourage and support new leaders. For further information , please contact Canon Burgon on 01536 710268.
