Holy Trinity Church, Rothwell

Junior Youth Club

Our Junior Youth Club meets each Friday evening at 6.30pm in the Sunday School Building. We are a very "activity based" club, and each week sees us involved in making something, finding out about a topic, or perhaps being involved in creating artwork or something for the church. Easter 2002 is now long gone, but here are a few pictures of us with the Easter Figures we made to decorate the church.

On April 12th 2003 some twelve members of the Junior Youth Club met to explore some aspects of the Middle Ages and the Church. We used our own beautiful Parish Church as a resource and setting for our activities. The children enjoyed stories, brass rubbing, castle building, gargoyle making and collage work The lovely prayer of St. Richard of Chichester was made into an illuminated prayer card. We discussed the event of the Black Death and visited the Bone Crypt. Several medieval saints as found in the stained glass windows were discussed and their pictures coloured in. Pilgrims' staffs were made with scallop shells made from cardboard. The children let off steam after lunch with a spirited game of football in the Vicarage garden. They learned a medieval plainsong hymn which was used in the closing act of worship. We used the old medieval service of Compline sitting in the monks' stalls in the chancel. Lastly we had an Easter egg hunt. Our thanks to Linda and Charlotte Holt, Andrea Keightley, Jane Feasey, Dorothy Judkins, Marion Lloyd and Julian Hardman in helping to create a very happy time with the JYC members. Verdict. We want to do it again!
