New Stained Glass Window

The congregation at Holy Trinity Church, Rothwell in Northamptonshire is now enjoying a major work of art in a new stained glass window to be dedicated on October 27th by the Ven. David Painter, Archdeaon of Oakham. The window is designed by Helen Whittaker of Barley Studios in York and was commissioned by the PCC when it was left a legacy of £50,000 from the will of a parishioner of Rothwell, Mrs Jessie Cleaver who died in 2004. It was her wish that the window depict "Jesus and the children". She was made a war widow in 1943 after her husband, Albert, was killed in action in Tunisia. She continued with her career as a teacher in local schools until she retired in 1969. The PCC in its search for an artist was impressed with Helen Whittaker's designs in stained glass which can be found in Ely Cathedral, Beverley Minster and St Ethburga's Church in London, to name but a few. The window is a wonderful and colourful blend of the abstract and the real and reflects Christ's invitation to the viewer to follow Him and enjoy the graceful and exciting journey to heaven. Images of the Trinity abound as do the effects of the gifts of the spirit on the lives of the believer.
